The Dunkirk evacuation was when the British evacuated soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk. This was necessary because the German soldiers had encircled the British and French troops and they had know where to go except to be evacuated. After this evacuation Winston Churchill stated "we must be very careful not to assign to this deliverance the attributes of a victory. Wars are not won by evacuations"(Wikipedia,2015). Meaning because many of the troops got rescued through the evacuation does not mean they won the fight. The Germans had ultimately won due to the ability to isolate their enemy. If every army evacuated their troops there would be know fighting and one army would just overrun the other. So Churchill was reminding his country of this by stating "Wars are not won on evacuations".

I believe the Battle of Stalingrad was the biggest turning point for the Allies in WWII. This battle took place on Soviet Union grounds, where the Nazi's were trying to invade and take over Stalingrad. Since the Germans were a month or so behind of where they wanted to be they encounted slight problems. The main being the freezing temperatures. This weather froze their machines and impacted the German soldiers. The Soviet Union began pushing Germany further back- regaining control. Soon many German soldiers were encircled by the Allies. Germany never came the close to Stalingrad again. This Battle was one that showed Germany that they could not over run every country, people were still fighting back. It was a huge turning point in the war and could be said as one of the reasons it ended, along with other battles too.
Strategies and styles of war all differ from country to country and from leader to leader. So to explain which technological advancements had the most significant impact would be hard to say based upon the way a leader used said technology. However, with that being said the advancement of the bomber aircrafts was a huge asset to any army. It was a far greater improvement from the aircrafts used in WW1. These were able to have extra space that aloud for extra machinery to protect the planes(using guns). The Battle of Britain is one that shows the use of multiple aircrafts. The planes were used to target and destroy the most important infrastructures and equipment different countries needed. The improvement of the aircrafts was no doubt one of the key components in World War II.
Saving Private Ryan is a movie following a group of men through the war that were sent on a mission to find James private Ryan. He is one of four brothers that were involved in the war; however, all of Ryan's brother had been killed. Therefore, John H Miller's squad is sent to find Ryan and bring him home to his family. Along the way many of Miller's squad gets killed and in the final scenes of defending the bridge the rest of his squad minus two die along with him. Before Miller passes he says his final words to James Ryan "Earn it", this resonates hard with James and he finds himself thinking about it daily and trying to live his life to the fullest in honour of John H. Miller. All in all, Saving Private Ryan shows the extent each and every man went to in order to complete their mission they were given, even if that involved risking the opportunity to make it home to their families they know they did everything they could to help end the war.
