The Tiananmen Square Massacre took place in 1989. It was a popular demonstration led by students. Chinese troops charged through Tiananmen Square killing and arresting thousands of people. The brutal government attack on the protesters horrified many people in China and a lot of westerners. This assault that occurred made china look very bad. For example people urged the United States to get involved and punish the Chinese government. But the US had no interest in China in anyway due to the way they mistreated the peoples human rights. Because of this event that took place many people changed their opinions and mindset when a man took a stand, displaying courage and determination, and stood in front of a line of moving tanks. He created the belief, for everyone, that every person has a voice and when used in the right way will be heard and can make a difference.

The great leap forward which took place in 1958 was Mao's attempt to modernize China's economy so that by 1988 it would out-do the american economy. He planed to do this through intense industrialization and collectivization. This is the cause of the Great Chinese famine. I do believe that Mao did not have the intention of killing so many people, compared to that of Hitler whose focus was to create a superior race, which he intended to do by killing of millions that did not "belong" in his opinion. Where as Mao does not seem to have thought the projects he had through and all the consequences that could occur due to the outcome of these projects. All in all, he did not think of the people of the country and ended up costing the lives of many, he only thought of himself and what would make him a better leader, but he was not to the extend of Hitler whose soul purpose was to kill those who would get in the way of his vision.
The Japanese were partially responsible for bringing Communism to china throughout the whole 1900's. Right before the 1900 period the republic of China's leader was Sun Yat Sen. When Sun Yat Sen died in 1925 a new leader- Chiang Kai- Sheck- came forward, at this time Mao Zedong run the propaganda and never stopped promoting communism. In 1931 Japan started to invade China--Manchuria, because of this invasion the Chinese communist party increased it's strength by freeing parts of northern China that was once under Japanese control. Chiang was to focussed on the invasion happening at Manchuria which allowed Mao to step forward and lead the spread of Communism.
